"Colorful Copper Birds" Metal Working with Sharon Novak

COLORFUL COPPER BIRD

In this workshop with artist and metal smith Sharon K. Novak, students will create a unique BIRD using rich, “painterly” thin copper or brass sheet which has been previously "heat-painted” with torch, flux and silver solder by the instructor. Select a pattern, cut your bird out and let your imagination go! Using a variety of tools, learn simple techniques to add texture, form the metal dimensionally, stamp, and “cold-connect” with wire. Enhance the edges with pliers or wires and learn to twist, coil and spiral wires to use as decorative accents, attach colorful glass beads and make a decorative hook.

"Art Journaling in Mixed Media" with Lisa Bebi

In this workshop, you will learn  several techniques: automatic writing and painting, paint-over, image altering, use of resists, adding and subtracting elements as well as a cool mix of compounds and mediums to use that you may not have thought of yourself.

From Lisa:

"One of the most liberating experiences to me is art journaling. Art journaling allows me to forget myself and let the creative energy of the universe flow through my fingers onto pages and pages. It gets filled with unspoken delight because it is a place where color, emotion, words, abstractions can spew forth without the hindrance of forethought or self control.

It is also a cool place to learn and try out new techniques to add to my artist arsenal.  So come explore with me. Sometimes you need to let go in order to expand and find yourself."

 **Materials to bring:

-your own journal (medium to large size)
-personal images (photocopies or magazine images), papers, ribbons, lace, cardboard, paints, brushes, markers and permanent markers to write with
